Foreign exchange inflow for India. India exports software and services to approximately 95 countries in the world. By outsourcing to India, many countries get

Benefits in terms of labour costs and business processes. Also, the Indian companies are broadening the range of services being provided to the customers,

which is resulting in more off shoring. Talent acquisition, development and retention initiatives taken by the companies have brought down the employee attrition

rates, thereby providing more stability to the employees and increasing their job commitment.

Many financial institution are providing funds for the expansion of IT  businesses. In order to support IT, the Indian Government is also taking many steps. For example :

1. The Govt. has provided incentives including tax holiday up to 2010 and competitive duty structures.
2. The Govt. is trying to reduce the international communication cost.
3. It is providing infrastructure support through organizations such as software technology parks.

All these factors collectively create a number of opportunities in the IT sector.

Future of Information Technology

IT will continue to gain momentum ;  telecom and wireless will follow the trend. The immense expansion in networking technologies is expected to continue into

the next decade also. IT will bring about a drastic improvement in the quality of life as it impacts application domains and global competitiveness. Technologies

that are emerging are Data Warehousing and Data Mining. They involve collecting data to find patterns and testing hypothesis in normal research. Software services that are being used in outsourcing will go a long way.

Mind blowing !!! we are on the cusp of some MAJOR innovations. Solid state memory ( i.e USB or ‘thumb’ drives ) are quickly replacing ‘hard drives’ in devices. This will reduce heat and increase battery life enormously. It will also change how several operating systems ( i.e. Microsoft Windows) work. In the past, there has always been some dependence upon regularly accessing the hard drive storage for various reasons ( virtual memory) now that a ‘solid state’ drive has decreased how long it takes to access a piece of data ( by a factor of 1000 !!) you won’t see a ‘slow computer’ any more.

There is also a major advancement in ECM ( Enterprise Content Management ) coming which will change how we look at documentation creation and storage. While I’m not sure we will ever get to a ‘paperless office’ we’re going to get awfully close over the next few years. Information Technology will also help us meove forward with advances in transportation and energy production. For instance, it was only the vastly more powerful computing capacity available since 2000 that has allowed both ‘wind energy’ and ‘solar energy’ to have made such enormous leaps in efficiency. The ‘bullet trains’ in Asia and Europe would not be possible without the incredible advances in  CAD ( Computer Aided Design) the new technologies have made possible.

Another arena that is going to change dramatically is education. With the new capabilities for ‘video conferencing’ coming it will be quite possible for classes to be held completely in ‘cyberspace’ with instructors around the world.

Objectives of Information Technology

Artificial intelligence is necessary for development of mankind. Today, the term information technology has ballooned to encompass many aspects of computing and technology, and the term is more recognizable than ever before. The information technology umbrella can be quite large, covering many fields. IT  professionals perform a variety of duties that range from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that IT  professionals perform may include: Data management, Computer networking, Computer engineering, Database systems design, Software design, Management of information systems, Systems management or System administration, Voice over IP or VoIP. It is necessary to cut cost in every field for betterment of Man Kind.

Perhaps for the first time in the history of industrialization, we are witnessing the growth of a technology which has a capability to bridge the gap between haves and have-nots. Information Technology in its fully convergent form encompassing various forms of information delivery systems, such as Television, Radio, Newspapers, Books, Computers, Internet, etc. into one integrated environment, provides a unique opportunity to touch the lives of everyone irrespective of various forms of divisions in the society. I firmly believe that our college’s capabilities in the field of Information Technology not only provide an opportunity to the country to emerge as an IT  super power in the world but will also be a major vehicle for all round socio-economic development in the country.
